Swindon: Birthplace of the NHS, Foundation of Modern Vein Care

Swindon holds a special place in British medical history as the birthplace of the NHS. It was here that the principles of fairness, accessibility and innovation in healthcare first took root. That same ethos continues to shape our consultant‑led approach to venous care today.

Traditional NHS Vein Care

For decades, NHS services in Swindon provided essential care for patients with varicose veins and chronic venous disease. Traditional treatments such as surgical stripping and inpatient care reflected the best available science of their time and established a strong foundation of equitable access and clinical governance.

Modern Vein Treatments

Building on this foundation, modern venous care has evolved towards minimally invasive techniques including endovenous laser therapy (EVLT), radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and ultrasound‑guided foam sclerotherapy. These treatments are typically performed under local anaesthetic, allow immediate mobilisation and avoid the need for hospital admission.

Aligning Tradition with Innovation

Our current consultant‑led service reflects this evolution. By combining NHS‑informed governance with specialist expertise and modern technology, we aim to deliver safe, precise and patient‑centred vein care within a regulated hospital environment.

Why This Matters for Patients

Patients attending MyVeins benefit from continuity between NHS heritage and contemporary specialist practice. This approach supports informed decision‑making, personalised treatment planning and long‑term venous health.
